Rodríguez: "A draw would have been a fair result"
The midfielder reviews his first start for the club
The Valencia CF coach’s post-match press conference
Valencia CF coach Carlos Corberán spoke after the los to Villarreal CF at the Estadio de La Cerámica.
His assessment of the game
I’m dissatisfied, it wasn't the result we wanted. It didn’t reflect the conviction the team had. We lacked good football in the first half, we lacked attacking impetus, and we failed to play the way we did in the second half.
What Valencia CF lacked
In the opening minutes, Villarreal CF dominated possession, making it difficult for us to get out of our own half. Then we managed to make transitions, play more in their half, and on one of those quick attacks, we won a penalty and took the lead. Clinical finishing in both penalty areas defined the match. In the second half, we went behind, and there was no other option but to attack and push forward, but we couldn't capitalise on this. We had clear chances, but we didn't score. I'd say we had more chances than those which Villarreal CF had to overturn our opening goal.
Bad luck for both goals conceded
We don't believe in bad luck; we prefer to take responsibility for our actions. We're capable of defending better, so we'll take that into the next match, and we hope to improve as a team.
Fighting until the end
What we need to do is work to do better in the next match and take a step forward. Today we were confident we could do that, but some details prevented us from getting a better result.
